Ninth Belarusian expedition headed for Antarctica in November

Six Belarusian scientists and researchers will be delivered to eastern Antarctica by the ship ‘Academician Fiodorov’, continuing the construction of infrastructure for the Belarusian Antarctic station. The team will be involved in the realisation of Belarus-Russia joint scientific and environmental projects, such as are realised annually (3 or 4 projects) on the southern continent. One involves the study of the atmosphere using modern equipment, some of which was made in Belarus. This year, a scientist from the Laboratory of Optics and Scattering Media of the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences will go to Antarctica to take measurements using lidars and radiometers, and to study the size and quantity of particles in the atmosphere. Representatives of the Russian delegation have been discussing the research programme and finalising details of the expedition with colleagues.
