Belarus sees the reformation of the UNO as a way to promote further cooperation with the organisation

The adaptation of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) to the new realities, the increase of its role in the world and the creation of effective mechanisms that would take into account the interests of all participating states meet foreign policy priorities of Belarus.

A source in the Belarusian Foreign Ministry underlined, the Belarusian diplomats take an active part in the discussions focused on the reforms of UN principle bodies, including the Security Council, General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council.

Today, Belarus is a participating state in 49 international organisations of the UN system. As many as 11 UN representative offices, agencies and organisations run in Minsk. UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Labour Organisation (ILO), UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Children’s Fund (UNCEF), World Health Organisation (WHO), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are among the agencies with which Belarus is in very close partnership.

Belarus has repeatedly used UN Security Council open sittings to communicate to international public its firm position of strict adherence to the UN Statute renouncing use of force in solving disputes or against sovereign states without a corresponding decision of the Security Council. The election of Belarus to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UNDP Executive Council is the recognition of Belarus’ notable contribution to achieving the UN goals and fulfilling the UN tasks in economic, social and environment protection areas.

Belarus also partakes in the largest international forums organised within the framework of UN activities and ensures a stepwise implementation of UN protocols.

The UNDP report 2004 defined Belarus as a country with a high level of human development.
