Alexandra Sasnovich was defeated by Turkey’s Buyukakcay Cagla (7:5, 6:7, 2:6), while Olga Govortsova lost to Monica Puig (5:7, 3:6), continuing a series of catastrophic failures this season. She has won only once across thirteen matches.
Sadly, leading light Victoria Azarenko, who was expected to go far in France’s major tennis tournament, lost to Italy’s Karin Knapp (3:6, 7:6, 0:4c). Later, Ms. Azarenko spoke of knee pain, although it’s unclear how much time she’ll need to recover and whether Victoria will be ready to play in time for Wimbledon.
