‘Merry Shchadrukha — Kolyady’ holiday being hosted by Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Lifestyle on January 17th

Kolyady in StrochitsyIt’s become traditional for the Strochitsy museum to show guests unique Belarusian customs on festive days. This year’s ‘To Bake a Cat’ game is sure to inspire gaity, alongside fascination in late 19th-early 20th century village Epiphany celebrations.

A master class is planned on weaving ‘spider’ talismans and there will be prizes for the best traditional Christmas mask, as well as for children’s drawings under the theme ‘Christmas Cat’. Kolyady fortune-telling ceremonies, games and entertainments are scheduled, as is a concert programme featuring folk bands from Minsk and the Minsk Region. There will be a Batleika Puppet Theatre show and the Christmas Star contest.

Overall, 95 Kolyady events are planned across the Minsk Region: folk-parties, customs, song festivals, exhibitions of drawings and souvenir fir-trees and theatrical performances, ending on January 25th, in the Volozhin, Vileika, Myadel and Stolbtsy districts.
