BNTU-BelAZ Minsk handballers fail to qualify for Champions League

sport.pngIn the first match of the selection round, hosted by German Leipzig, Konstantin Sharovarov’s trainees lost to the competition hosts 18:22. They were then defeated by Dutch Sercodak Dalfsen, in the match for third place — 27:30. As a result, Leipzig is through to the group stage of the major continental tournament, having beaten Hungarian FTC in the decisive match — 39:38. Now, the women’s handball champions of Belarus will play in the Cup of Cups, first facing Kaunas Žalgiris (Lithuania).

In the men’s SEHA League, Brest Meshkov HC welcomed Croatian Zagreb, losing by a single point — 28:29. This was the first defeat for the Brest handballers in the current competition, having beaten Bosnian Borac from Banja Luka (31:27) and Croatian Nexe from Našice (29:26).

Brest Meshkov HC’s B team defeated Minsk’s SKA — 32:25, at home, in their first Baltic League match; the victory was welcome, but the Minsk squad were playing without most of their top names.
