Direct Flight for Direct Cooperation

Direct air link has been opened between Minsk and Milan
Italy’s air carrier “Alitalia” will provide three direct Minsk-Milan flights a week. “The relations between Italy and Belarus are getting promoted by joint efforts,” Ambassador of Italy to Belarus Guglielmo Ardizzone told reporters in Minsk on the eve of the national holiday — the Day of the Republic. According to him, regional relations are especially strong, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Guglielmo Ardizzone said he hoped fruitful cooperation between the two countries would continue.

“Belarus has always considered Italy one of the most promising partners,” said Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Gerasimenko. He specifically noted an increase in mutual trade, which hit the historical $500 million last year reaching $553 million.

According to the deputy minister, Italy has rendered invaluable humanitarian support to Belarus in its campaign to struggle against the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. Mr. Gerasimenko appreciated the efforts of thousands of Italians who help Belarusian children from Chernobyl-affected areas take recuperation holidays in Italy. Last year alone over 26,000 children visited Italy. Besides, Italy provides considerable humanitarian assistance to this country.
