Finnish Kaisa Makarainen has finally passed her yellow shirt to Darya Domracheva, after having possessed it since the second race of the season. Darya impressed everyone with her phenomenal speed and stable shooting, displaying great progress in the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon 8 in Holmenkollen.

Darya Domracheva begins training for World Championship in good mood

The Norwegian course saw the major rivals demonstrate their true potential in the fight for the Big Crystal Globe. Recalling the Oberhof relay race, where Belarusian athlete took her team to third position on the final lap, it seemed that Domracheva’s ability was endless; she seems able to catch any rival on the track. However, Dasha has also demonstrated new reasons for admiration. In the sprint race, she sailed to victory without appearing to stretch herself at all.

Domracheva can afford to lag behind by a few seconds on the ski track, as best time is not everything. She missed just one shot out of 30 in Holmenkollen, taking second place in the individual race and first in the sprint, giving her top ranking overall, with 837 points. Kaisa Makarainen has 827 points and Czech Veronika Vitkova has 620, placed third. Domracheva leads the individual races and sprint rankings.

The World Championship, hosted by Finland’s Kontiolahti, is to be held from March 5th-15th, and the season will finish in Russia’s Khanty-Mansiysk, on March 19th-22nd.

The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, congratulated biathlete Darya Domracheva on her win at the IBU World Cup in Norwegian Holmenkollen.
