Yevgeny Sobol, of Minsk Cycling Club, wins multi-day race, held on Polish roads, winning final, fifth, stage and ranking first in general qualification

The Сourse Cycliste de Solidarnosc et des Champions Olympiques multi-day race featured 128 athletes from 22 teams. The Belarusians were far from claiming a medal during the first four stages. However, in the fifth, Yevgeny Sobol covered 195km, from Tarnobrzeg to Krosno, in just 4 hours 56 minutes and 45 seconds, ahead of his nearest rival, Timul Maleev of Ukraine, by 6 seconds. This gave him first place and a mountain bike jersey.

The world’s most prestigious race, the Tour de France, has begun in France, with Vasily Kiriyenko, boasting four victories at Grand Tour stages, defending the colours of British Sky team.
