The developments of Belarusian NAS’ Institute of Microbiology enjoy demand in Russia, Kazakhstan and China

These countries actively buy technologies and medications, developed in the Institute of Microbiology by Chemical Synthesis and Biotechnologies State Scientific and Production Amalgamation at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus.

According to Emilia Kolomiets, Director of the Institute of Microbiology, the Russian side has purchased a license agreement on the use of production technologies for the ‘Laksil’ biological preservative for the ensilage of plant raw materials. Moreover, Russian manufacturers of various chemical substances from Shchelkovo are interested in biological preparations produced at the Institute of Microbiology. “They’ve placed an order with us for the development of technology to produce a compound preparation which promotes the invigoration of biocenosis,” notes Ms. Kolomiets.

Four contracts have been signed with Kazakhstan for the supply of preparations, developed in the Institute. “There’s also a contract with China for the production of probiotic substances — an alternative for antibiotics in the creation of forage for animal breeding. This is also currently under negotiation with Turkey,” adds the Head of the Institute.

At present, the Institute of Microbiology at the Academy of Sciences is trying to enter the EU market. However, the necessity to register their produce in line with European legislation remains the major hindrance for Belarusian scientists.

Ms. Kolomiets said that recently a trial batch of preparations was ordered by Lithuania. Serbia is also keen on the Institute’s developments and ‘promised’ to register some preparations’. Therefore, entrance into the EU market is a ‘matter of time’ for the NAS’ Institute of Microbiology.
