During their meeting in New York, Belarus’ Foreign Minister, Vladimir Makei, and Argentinean Foreign Relations Minister, Susana Malcorra, expressed their support for closer interaction between the EAEU and the Mercosur (the South American common market)

The two parties focussed on bilateral relations and ways to expand co-operation between Belarus and Argentina, primarily in the economic, investment and trade sectors. The discussion included ways to develop bilateral economic collaboration, including through joint manufacturing projects aimed at maximising the potential market opportunities of the big trading unions of which Belarus and Argentina are members.
A number of agreements were reached at the meeting, with the ministers consenting to hold a meeting of the joint commission on trade-economic co-operation in Minsk in H2 2016. Vladimir Makei and Susana Malcorra also touched upon global foreign political issues. The Argentinean Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasised the role of Minsk in the recent efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region.
