Chairman of CIS Executive Committee and CIS Executive Secretary, Sergei Lebedev, will head CIS observation mission for election of deputies to House of Representatives of National Assembly of Belarus. His candidature has been approved at a session of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of parties to the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“We’ll be maintaining close contact with all power structures in Belarus responsible for organising elections,” notes the head of the mission. “We’ve always seen a good and open approach and have been assisted in fulfilling the tasks of the CIS observation mission. We’ve previously endeavoured to monitor objectively, benevolently and in compliance with Belarusian law. We’ll do the same this time.”

As is traditional, the CIS observation mission has been invited to monitor preparations and to conduct elections in Belarus. It comprises long-term and short-term observers. After the election campaign, the mission will release its statement.

The deputies to the House of Representatives will be elected on September 11th.
