Belarusian national basketball leader Yelena Levchenko changes clubIn the new season, Chinese Jiangsu is to gain Yelena, aged 31, for its team. The club finished ninth in its national championship last season. In fact, Ms. Levchenko has played previously in the Chinese Championship, having joined the Liaoning squad for the 2012/13 season.

Over her long professional career, Gomel-born Yelena has managed to play abroad several times. While studying in the USA, she played in the Lithuanian Championship (TEO Vilnius), as well as that of Spain (Estudiantes), and Poland (in Chorzów and Wisla Krakow). She also played in Turkey (Galatasaray Istanbul) and Russia (UGMK Yekaterinburg). Yelena played for the winning team in the Lithuanian championship, in 2007, and repeated this success in the Russian championship in 2009 and 2012. She has also enjoyed coming third with her team in the Euroleague (2008, 2009 and 2012). In 2010, she played in the final series of the Women’s National Basketball Association, with the club Atlanta Dream.

Playing for the national team of Belarus, Ms. Levchenko won bronze in the 2007 European Championship, in Italy, and was named best central player in the World Championship in the Czech Republic in 2010. At the recent World Championship, in Turkey, she led the Belarusian squad’s success, claiming 13 goals, on average, per match.
