Celebration of life

The Day of the Republic celebrated on July 3 was perceived not just as a state holiday, but as a personal holiday of common people. A day of high spirit, a family-uniting rest
It is as young as the country itself, but is of more significance than an ordinary holiday. Undoubtedly, Independence Day (the Day of the Republic) personifies modern Belarus with its modern history. It is the principal state holiday that this year is of special importance as it coincided with the anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from fascist invaders. Freedom, memory of and gratitude to the veterans is what unites people in the recent years. The tradition of bowing to the victorious soldier is the strongest in Belarus: it has been alive for 61 years now. It is anchored in the Belarusian mind and is subject to no corrosion. The way the past is reflected in the reality is a way it will transcend into the future.

“Life is a holiday” is a comparison, a metaphor if you will. The statement can hardly be made a reality. But a holiday is an event. The Day of the Republic celebrated on July 3 was perceived not just as a state holiday, but as a personal holiday of common people. A day of high spirit, a family-uniting rest. Minsk avenues were buzzing with celebrators, songs, meetings and smiles… It gave a strange feeling that the day had become a culmination of something important.

Indeed, this is the essence of achievement, the essence of life that has a place for a holiday.

In this issue of the magazine we will talk about the features that are characteristic of a strong personality. Resolution, openness and kind heart evince in the routine of such people. Isn’t it the principle human value? I am sure it is.
