At least 70,000 visitors are expected to visit Brest Hero Fortress Memorial site on May 9th
At least 70,000 visitors are expected to visit Brest Hero Fortress Memorial site on May 9th. “We believe that this day will see no fewer visitors than in the previous year, when around 70,000 people attended Brest Fortress,” notes Director Grigory Bysyuk, adding that they now receive a great number of applications from tourist groups. Most tourists will visit between May 1st and May 10th.


Brest Fortress preparing

Vladimir Pakhomovich Kozmin, aged over 90, from the Rostov Region, is one of the few remaining veterans who defended Brest Fortress. He will be attending the Victory Day commemorations at the legendary citadel, accompanied by relatives from Brest. Families of three defenders from the Moscow Region also plan to take part, on May 9th, when the Ceremonial Square will host a traditional remembrance ceremony, followed by a theatrical and festive all-day concert featuring groups and soloists from the city and the Brest Region.

A festive marathon is to launch at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial on May 2nd, beginning at 9pm with a patriotic concert, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory, at the Zvezda central entrance. About Motherland, About Love, About Heroic Deeds will feature the Presidential Orchestra of Belarus, as well as Belarusian artistes. Gazprom Transgaz Belarus JSC is the event sponsor.

On May 7th, the US Air Force Band is scheduled to perform, at Brest Fortress, followed by a concert in Minsk on Victory Day. On May 8th, there will be another concert, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the site being awarded its Hero Fortress title.

Preparations are underway, ensuring that the venue is ready for its many guests.
