Representatives of Belarusian national team claim thirteen awards of the 45th International Alexander Medved Freestyle Wrestling Grand Prix Championship

Fight in the under 55 category between Zalina Sidakova and Yekaterina Gonchar

At the end of the tournament, Belarus’ athletes appeared on the podium five times. Medals for the highest degree of competition in women’s wrestling went to Irina Kurochkina and Vasilisa Marzalyuk. The latter confirmed the championship title that she won last year. Moreover, her record of service includes a considerable number of victories. She became the silver medallist at the European championships in 2011 and 2014, won the bronze at the European Championship in 2013, and similarly at the World Championships in 2011 and 2013.

As for the men, two Belarusian wrestlers Zhan Safyan and Alexander Gushtyn, won one silver medal each on the second day of the tournament. While in the under 86-weight category, Omargadzhi Magomedov came third.
At the start of competition, the best in their weight categories were Vladislav Andreev and Azamat Nurikov; in women’s wrestling it was Zalina Sidakova. Yekaterina Gonchar won a silver medal. The bronze awards went to Anastasia Ivanova, Alexander Kontoev, Rasul Tikhaev and Ali Shabanov.

In total, more than 300 athletes from 28 countries took part. The significance of the tournament was made clear by the fact that, for athletes of many of the national teams, it was a qualifying round for the first European Games, which will be held in June in Baku. Tournaments named after Alexander Medved have been held in Minsk since 1970. Since 1994, after a decision by the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (Now United World Wrestling (UWW)) the event was given Grand prix status.
