The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has praised the efficient work of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking that was set up at the United Nations in 2010 upon the initiative of Belarus. The UN Secretary-General made this statement in his video message, timed to coincide with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

“I would like to thank the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking for their efficient work in their co-operation with the United Nations,” noted Ban Ki-moon.

“In May last year, we had a very fruitful discussion of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking. Now it is time to discuss what we will do next. We should start preparing for the next revision of the plan in 2017 and build on our success,” Ban Ki-moon said.

The UN Secretary-General also urged countries to assume specific anti-trafficking commitments with a view to restoring justice and creating support for the victims.
