“The leadership of the Sakhalin Region has asked us to plant an orchard. Specialists of our Scientific and Practical Centre for Food will come to Sakhalin to study the land allocated, to plant a Belarusian orchard, using Belarusian technology,” underlined the Minister. Mr. Zayats emphasises that Belarus plans to supply saplings to Russia, saying, “We have enough and we’ll be expanding our intensive planting of orchards, to move away from imports.”

The Belarusian Minister stresses that contracts worth over 400 million Russian Roubles have been signed with the Sakhalin Region. During a meeting at the Agriculture and Food Ministry, on June 9th, six documents were signed, aiming to activate co-operation with these Russian regions, including two agreements on co-operation.

In particular, according to Mr. Zayats, the Sakhalin Region is keen to set up joint baby food production.

The awards ceremony recognising efficiency in agribusiness was the first such held during Belagro, with more than twenty awards bestowed to agricultural workers, across four categories.
