Olga Govortsova
In the finals, the 28 year old Belarusian (268th in WTA rankings) confidently beat the tournament’s fifth seeded 20 year old Turkish tennis player, Ipek Soylu (185th in WTA) — 6: 1, 6: 2.
For Govortsova, this has become the sixth title in her career (in the adult singles). Previously, she won tournaments in Minsk (2007), Jackson (USA, 2007), Midland (USA, 2012), Kreuzlingen (Switzerland, 2015) and Seville (Spain, 2015).
The victory in Zhuhai will bring Govortsova — who is playing an extremely controversial season — 100 points, enabling her to return to the second hundred of the world rankings. Last season, the Belarusian completed in 69th place in the WTA rankings.
