Dialogue with USA on Belarus’ accession to World Trade Organisation passes stalemate

Speaking at a recent press conference in Minsk, Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Guryanov, emphasised, “The process of Belarus’ accession to the WTO is proceeding. We are following procedures: negotiating with a working group of countries, which are willing to discuss the regime of access to the market of commodities and services of Belarus. I cannot speak about other countries, but Belarus-USA dialogue is now moving. Lately, we’ve been exchanging questions and answers with regard to the improvement of Belarus’ legislation in the area of foreign trade. American colleagues are interested in a number of areas, including intellectual property rights, which are of principal importance for American companies.”

“As far as Belarusian-American relations and WTO issues are concerned, we’ve agreed to move pragmatically and progressively within the framework of negotiations between experts, without stalling the process,” added Mr. Guryanov.
