A feast for the eyes as Italian fashion hits Minsk

Women are guaranteed to get excited if the subject of Italian fashion comes up; who doesn’t dream of a dress from Versace, Armani or Valentino. Needless to say, few can afford such luxuries. However, the ladies of Minsk may now feast their eyes on beautiful dresses in an Italian Fashion Exhibition being held in the National Museum of History and Culture — entitled La Dolce Vita and more. “The collection began ten years ago, on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country,” says Giorgio Forni, the Exhibition Curator. The Sortirana Foundation Museum of Fashion has collected one hundred pieces by Italian fashion designers from the second half of the 20th century. Brilliant works created between the 1950s and 1990s in various fashion houses show the synthesis of elegant, imagination and talent, tradition, creativity and innovation. Dresses by Walter Albini, Mila Shock, Capucci, Baratt, Gianni Versace, Kallaghan, Byblos, Giorgio Armani and Valentino were made to order for such renowned actresses as Audrey Hepburn, Liz Taylor and Claudia Cardinale, as well as the wives of statesmen and millionaires.
Some pret-a-porte items are also in the collection — showing how fashion can be made available to a wider market without losing its high quality and style. Now, most women can afford to buy a beautiful dress from the renowned Italian fashion houses. There are over two hundred items in the show and about seventy of them have been brought to Minsk at the request of the Italian Embassy to the Republic of Belarus. Along with the collection of dresses and accessories, there are photos of the fashion designers taken with their celebrated clients. Those visiting the exhibition cans also see the work of Belarusian fashion designers such as Ivan Aiplatov; his new collection, called Catalan Dogs has been created jointly with photographer Elena Adamchik.
